About Ceibal
Founded in 2007, Ceibal is an institution that fosters inclusive and equal opportunities in the world of technology, with the goal of supporting Uruguayan educational policies. Since its implementation, every child and teenager entering Uruguay’s public education system has access to a computer for personal use and free internet connection from the education center.
Furthermore, Ceibal offers a range of programs, educational resources and teacher training courses that transform the ways of learning and teaching. Its mission is to promote the integration of technology in education in order to contribute to improving quality and driving social innovation, inclusion and personal growth processes.
The Challenge
Ceibal has always considered that being fluent in English is essential for students’ professional development and employability in IT; thus, its youth program called “Jóvenes a Programar” includes an English training plan, together with the program’s technical and social-emotional learning offer.
As the program quickly grew and was fully delivered online, Ceibal realized that the solution they had in place at the time resulted in too much time being devoted to operational logistics and planning, given that synchronous group classes were organized according to the different English levels of the students in each group. As a result, Ceibal decided to find a scalable solution, with a flexible and self-managed system for English teaching and learning.

The Solution
In an attempt to find a solution that met the needs of the institution and its students, and through a rigorous public tender process, Voxy was the company selected as the provider of English language courses through an online platform for the program “Jóvenes a Programar.”
Ceibal saw Voxy as a strategic ally that would enable it to realize its goals and help students reach the required English level thanks to the great variety and quality of content that Voxy offers for all CEFR levels, especially activities, lessons and units related to IT and engineering.
In addition, what made Voxy so attractive was the massive offer of synchronous classes with certified teachers, the flexibility of the platform in terms of class schedules and, last but not least, the accuracy of the program when assessing and monitoring the evolution and development of participants.
The English training program was implemented as part of “Jóvenes a Programar,” a program with a diverse student profile in terms of academic qualifications and work experiences, comprising students aged 18-30 whose English level is below C1 (Low Advanced).
Students find the platform user-friendly and easy to understand, with appealing and interesting topics and efficient user support that enables them to complete their lessons smoothly and seamlessly.

Through close tracking, and thanks to the reports made available by Voxy for monthly or weekly download depending on the stage and phase of the courses, it is possible to monitor the cognitive and educational evolution of the students and share this information with them on a weekly basis, either through messages or through each group’s tutors.
